Lloyd and Mark began the work of preparing the kitchen floor for electric radiant heat and porcelain tile (Kyoto by Emil). I was most struck by their van and their tools. The van contained an artist’s workshop of fodder of both past and present projects. A well worn, well travelled studio ready to supply the craftsman with all the necessities an expert tiler needs.
The process includes preparing the sub-floor, nailing down an underlayment membrane/paper, tacking down the actual radiant mats, priming the mats, then putting down a self-leveling underlayment to protect that mats before the mortar and Ditra are used. I encourage you to take a look at the Ditra link- interesting and innovative way to support a tile floor. We’re hopeful that the tile arrives on Monday, but there’s been a bit of a delay.
